Dimulai dari Desember 2012 oleh Indun & Eva yang berkeinginan membuat sebuah produk dengan konsep kelokalan dan bersifat “tak termakan jaman” dari segi material maupun desain. Melalui proses pencarian yang cukup panjang akhirnya kami memutuskan memilih material kulit yang bersifat durable / tahan lama.

Lalu sampai pada tahap pencarian nama, kami menginginkan nama yang mudah di ingat dan sangat lokal, lalu kami menemukan nama GABA-GABA dalam Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia(KBBI), yang mempunyai arti “daun-daunan” (terutama daun kelapa) untuk perhiasan atau memperhiasi,dsb. Menurut kami arti dari kata GABA-GABA bisa mewakili wilayah tropis Indonesia.

Ide kelokalan Indonesia diolah oleh Indun si founder yang memiliki latar belakang visual artist, Indun menuangkan dalam bentuk gambar ilustrasi yang diaplikasikan pada produk seperti : motif furing/lining, embos icon-icon flora & fauna Indonesia, dsb, dengan harapan dari setiap produk GABA-GABA ada cerita tentang Indonesia.

Longlasting adalah pegangan kami dalam membuat sebuah produk, setiap detail sangat mempertimbangkan aspek clean-look dan ergonomis.

Construction

Dibuat distudio kami di Yogyakarta – Indonesia, sebagian besar produk GABA-GABA dikerjakan dengan tangan mulai proses memotong, penipisan, silk-screen lining, merakit bagian, menjahit, hingga pemolesan akhir.

Material

“Menua bersama pemiliknya” kata kunci yang ada dalam pemikiran kami mengenai sebuah produk dengan material kulit, dan seiring waktu kami mulai banyak belajar mengenal karakter dan proses pengolahan material kulit, hingga kami memantapkan pilihan pada 2 jenis yaitu Pull up leather dan Nabati(vegetable tanned leather). Menurut kami kedua material kulit tsb sangatlah personal bagi si pemilik, karena proses “patina” yang tumbuh dari hari demi hari melalui kontak lama dengan tangan si pemilik, dan alasan lainnya kami memilih kedua material tersebut karena proses pengolahan yang masih cukup ramah lingkungan.

History
Initiated in December 2012 by Indun and Eva who want to make a product with local aspect and has enduring and long-lasting characteristic. Through a long process of searching, we finally decide to choose leather that has durable characteristic.
In the stage of finding the right name, we want a name that is easy to memorize and very local. At that moment, we found GABA-GABA in The Great Dictionary of Indonesian Language or Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia (KBBI). GABA-GABA means leaves, especially coconut leaf, which is used for ornament, decoration or finery. In our opinion, the meaning of GABA-GABA represents Indonesia as tropical country.
The idea of Indonesian locality is developed by Indun, the founder, who has background of visual artist. He creates the locality into illustration image that is applied on some of our products such as on the lining design and emboss of Indonesian flora and fauna. It is expected that there is a story of Indonesia in every GABA-GABA product.
Long-lasting is our motto in making a product. Every detail considers the clean-look and ergonomic.

Construction
Produced in our studio in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, most of GABA-GABA products are done by hand, ranging from leather pattern cutting, skiving, assembling, stitching, and finishing.
Material
“Growing old with the owner” is the keyword that popped up in our mind for a leather product. As time passes by, we learn a lot about the characteristic and the method of leather processing. It finally leads us decide to use two kinds of materials. They are pull-up leather and vegetable tanned leather. We think that both of them are very personal to the owner. It is because the leather develops its patina over time through intensive touch with the owner. Thus, we choose those materials because the making process is relatively eco friendly.
